"Cultural Bridges" for cultural rapprochement between the Kingdom and China
King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh, in cooperation with Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, held a seminar on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2025, entitled: (Cultural Bridges between Riyadh and Beijing) in the Blue Theater at the university, on the occasion of the Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year 2025.
The seminar included two panel discussions. The first session was titled: (From the Light of Libraries to the Glow of Awards), in which Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Zaid, Deputy Supervisor General of the King Abdulaziz Public Library, spoke about: (Cultural Rapprochement between the Kingdom and China, King Abdulaziz Public Library as a model). Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Aqeel, Secretary-General of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Award for Cultural Cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People's Republic of China, also spoke under the title: (Talk about the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Award for Cultural Exchange between Saudi Arabia and China). The first session was moderated by Dr. Hamda Al-Ghamdi, Dean of the College of Languages at Princess Nourah University.
The second session, which bore the title: (From the Heart of Riyadh to Beijing: Experiences Woven by Language and Culture), featured Dr. Saleh Al-Saqri (the first cultural attaché to China), who spoke about: The experience of Saudi-Chinese culture, and Dr. Asma Al-Qunai'ir (Head of the Department of Asian Languages (Chinese Language Program) at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University), who spoke on the title: (From Foundation to Excellence: The Journey of Teaching the Chinese Language). Dr. Fu Jiemin, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Peking University, also participated in the seminar with a speech titled: History of Arabic Culture in China. The session was moderated by Dr. Noura Al-Qahtani, a writer and academic at King Saud University.
The segments of the seminar program included introductory films documenting the enhancement of Saudi-Chinese cultural relations in the fields of science and knowledge. The activities of the sessions were also translated into Chinese, in addition to an accompanying exhibition that included an introductory booth for the King Abdulaziz Public Library, another for the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Award for Cultural Cooperation between Saudi Arabia and China, and a booth displaying the work of students from the College of Asian Languages at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, and another that included displaying heritage and artistic works within the participation of some of the Chinese communities in the city of Riyadh.
The attendance of the seminar from both the Saudi and Chinese sides was diverse, which added a cultural momentum that the seminar attendees enjoyed with its activities.
The program concluded with the Saudi Ardha.
