Digitization .. and the Future of Library Service

Over the past three decades, library service has witnessed unprecedented rapid developments, thanks to the various data provided by digital technology. The function of an information specialist, or rather a digital librarian, has become one of the main functions relied upon in the modern library system. Given the successive changes and developments in library software, this specialist needs to develop his abilities and skills by joining advanced training courses that contribute to achieving this al. Digitization, as defined by Doug Hodges, is "a process or procedure for converting intellectual content available on a traditional physical storage medium, such as: periodical articles, books, manuscripts, maps, and the like, into a digital form." While Charlette Buresi defines it as: "A method that allows converting data and information from the analog system to the digital system." In another definition mentioned by Terry Kuny, digitization is "the process of converting information sources of all kinds from books, periodicals, audio recordings, images, moving images... etc. into a readable form, through computer technologies via the binary system (bits)."
