He enriched the Saudi cultural scene with his critical works.. The passing of Dr. Aali Sarhan Al-Qurashi, author of "Questions of the Poem", "Dynamics of the Text", and "Transformations of the Novel"
The critic, Professor Dr. Aali Sarhan Al-Qurashi, passed away this morning at the age of 72 after a long struggle with illness at the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Cairo. In a tweet on Twitter this Wednesday morning, November 15, the writer Khalaf Sarhan Al-Qurashi wrote: "Praise be to ,d in every situation. With full faith in ,d's decree and submission, I announce to you the passing of my dear brother Aali, may ,d Almighty have mercy on him. He passed away a few hours a, in his hospital in Cairo. The loss is great and the tragedy is immense, and we say only: (To ,d we belong and to Him we shall return) and there is no power or strength except in ,d, the Most High, the Almighty. I ask you to pray for mercy and forgiveness for him, and for us and all his family, relatives, and loved ones, for tranquility, patience, firm conviction, submission, and satisfaction with what ,d has decreed and ordained."
The critic Dr. Aali Sarhan Al-Qurashi has a large number of critical works and studies in which he focused on studying Saudi literature, the Saudi novel, and the Arab poetic and literary heritage, relying on methodological visions represented in the manifestations of modern literary criticism such as structure, semantics, and stylistic and interpretive studies. Dr. Aali Sarhan Al-Qurashi (1951-2023 AD) was a critic and researcher considered one of the most prominent and important cultural and academic figures in the city of Taif. He published a collection of works in literary criticism, including the book "The Self's Journey in the Space of the Ancient Poetic Text" and the book "Transformations of the Novel in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", which won the Ministry of Culture and Information Book Award for the year 1434 AH (2014). He obtained his Master's degree from Umm Al-Qura University in 1402 AH, with a thesis titled "Exaggeration in Arabic Rhetoric", and his PhD from Umm Al-Qura University in 1410 AH, with a thesis titled "The Poetic Image in the Poetry of Bishr bin Abi Khazim Al-Asadi".
He worked as a professor at Taif University, served as the Secretary-General of the Mohammed Al-Thubaiti Poetry Creativity Award in 2014, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Literary Club in Taif ,vernorate since its formation in 1430 AH, and was the head of the cultural committee at the Association of Culture and Arts, Taif branch, overseeing the Okaz Forum there between 1421 and 1427 AH. He was also the editor-in-chief of the periodical "Majaz" published by the Taif Club since 1431 AH and a member of the editorial board of the periodical "Souq Okaz" published by the Taif Club.
Among his most prominent works: "You and the Language", "Creative Energies", "The Human Vision in the Movement of Language", "The Poetic Personality of Taif", "The Self's Journey in the Space of the Poetic Text", "Women's Text", "The Narrative of Language and the Text of Writing", "Questions of the New Poem", "Transformations of Criticism and the Dynamics of the Text", and "Transformations of the Novel in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", which won the Ministry of Culture and Information Book Award for 1434 AH (2014). In this book, Al-Qurashi monitored many local narrative transformations, as well as the reality of the novel among the first generation of novelists, tracking various narrative shifts in our local scene through several novels he took as models for studying the transformations discussed in his book. He was honored by the Culture and Arts Association in Taif and received a certificate of excellence from Taif University in the academic year 1428/1429 AH. The critical writings of Dr. Aali Sarhan Al-Qurashi constitute a significant part of the prominent critical scene in the Kingdom and have been adopted as references and sources in a large number of academic studies, especially in their treatment of issues concerning new Saudi poetry and novels.
