From the Desert to the Computer and Media: King Abdulaziz Public Library moves camels into the technological space
As you drive through the vast landscapes of Saudi Arabia, you are inevitably drawn to the camels. These "ships of the desert" have been central to Arabian life for millennia. The Kingdom has honored this heritage by establishing farms, reserves, and festivals like the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival.
A major step was the memorandum of understanding between the Camel Club and the King Abdulaziz Public Library in August 2021. This aims to exchange research expertise and establish an "Electronic Camel Information Center." This center will be a unique digital repository in the Middle East, archiving everything related to camels in multiple languages. The library currently holds 141 titles on camels, covering their history in literature, their role in desert civilization, and scientific studies on their breeding and health. This project turns heritage into a digital resource for the world, ensuring the camel remains a symbol of Saudi identity in the modern era.
