On the seventh anniversary of the pledge of allegiance to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques: King of Historians and lover of Saudi history

The anniversary of the pledge of allegiance to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz – may d protect him – is renewed with the renewal of the civilizational development that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia experiences year after year. This development, which includes various fields of development, enhances the of looking forward to achieving a prosperous future for the Kingdom that does not stop at limits. The Kingdom today is different from yesterday, and throughout its historical eras it witnessed growing leaps towards the future, and with the striving towards achieving the als of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, the image will be more proud and prosperous.

The seventh anniversary of the pledge of allegiance to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques falls while the Kingdom is at the peak of its progress in various development projects, as his pledge of allegiance – may d support him – took place on the third of Rabi' al-Akhar 1436 AH corresponding to January 23, 2015 AD as King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Giant and striking achievements have been achieved for the Kingdom during this period that were the subject of international appreciation before local and regional, and we will focus here on an important aspect of the personality of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques – may d protect him – which is his passion for history.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' passion for science, reading and knowledge began early in his life, and this passion and great interest in various branches of culture, especially history, continued, as he is one of the makers of history and a od reader of it. He is the King of history, especially the history of the Kingdom and the history of its founder and leaders, and an authentic reference for all historians until they began calling him (King of Historians). Many are the historical stops and edifices that King Salman built in the path of science and national history, most notably King Salman's private library located in his palace in Al-Ma'athar, which is considered one of the rare libraries, rather it is the largest library owned by a leader of a state in this modern era.

Lover of History:

If King Salman bin Abdulaziz – may d protect him – has an interest in various kinds of knowledge and a broad insight into various well-known cultural periodicals and magazines, his passion for one of the branches of culture and history exceeds all other branches, as he is a reader of history and one of the makers of its events. He is the King of History, and many local and international universities have presented many doctoral degrees, which are considered one of the highest decorations and honors given to a superior and successful personality in their field, in recognition of his merit and contributions in the fields of science and his continuous support for education and knowledge throughout the world.

Despite his great political concerns since he was the Prince of Riyadh region, King Salman is always keen to talk about history, especially the history of the Kingdom and the history of its leaders, whether through correcting information that is published and broadcast or through lectures he gives in scientific institutions and Saudi universities. Also, the historical tone always stands out in his comprehensive words on various occasions, as he is a follower of studies and investigations and does not hesitate to respond to suspicions in a solid scientific manner. For example, when one of the Arab television channels mentioned, through a program it was broadcasting in April 2008, information that King Salman saw as incorrect, relating to the lineage of Al Saud, he sent a letter that was carefully and accurately drafted containing a huge flow of documented information about the lineage of Al Saud, and also corrected information he saw as wrong regarding the Saudi state's reliance on the sword and tribal fanaticism.

The speeches and words of King Salman throughout the period of his assuming the Emirate of Riyadh remained full of narrating historical events that he witnessed, or those that were narrated to him and he verified them. For example, his lecture he gave at Umm Al-Qura University and published by "Darah" in a special issue, narrated a group of stories, including what he said: "King Abdulaziz did not accept to be called by the title: Imam, during his father's life out of politeness and reverence for him, and he was called Sultan, then King until Imam Abdulrahman died in 1346 AH and Abdulaziz became titled Imam after that alongside being a King."

As part of his interest and support for cultural and historical institutions, he agreed – may d support him – for King Abdulaziz Darah to support some relevant scientific associations, and support and open the Makkah History Center and a number of centers in Taif, Jeddah and the Eastern Province. He also agreed that his name be associated with the award and grant decided by the Board of Directors for studies and research in the history of the Arabian Peninsula.

He sponsored – may d protect him – several major cultural events where the Second International Conference on the History of King Abdulaziz the Founder, held by Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, was opened. A museum of the history of science and technology in Islam was also established, which was inaugurated earlier at Imam University in collaboration with the Institute for the History of Arabic and Islamic Sciences located at Frankfurt University in Germany. Also, the King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Exhibition "Al-Fahd: The Spirit of Leadership" was opened under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, which was organized by the sons and grandsons of King Fahd – may d have mercy on him – in collaboration with King Abdulaziz Darah. The Al-Bujairi district project in historical Diriyah in Riyadh was opened, and finally he opened the Al-Turaif district development project as part of the historical Diriyah development program.
