Tourism of Rhymes.. A tour of the hometowns of the poet Abdullah bin Al-Dumaynah

By: Poet / Saud bin Saad Al Samra

The journey of the ancient Arab poet in the space and time where he was formed is surrounded by the influence of the surrounding environment. His language is tense, dominated by longings and disappointments. He mentions names of places he yearns for. The poet's passion for place is evident in his contemplation of its beauty and through the feelings he broadcasts towards it. When Ibn Al-Dumaynah said: "O breeze of Najd, you have stirred from Najd / And stirred for me in your path grief upon grief," a dove in Najd stirred his sorrows while he was traveling away from his home and beloved Umaym. He recalls the places of his happiness like "Suwayqa" and the cold drinking place of "Waddan." He describes his psychological state as a distant stranger, mentioning the places where he met his beloved. He is obsessed with mentioning the places inhabited by the beloved, drawing their names in his poems. Al-Sari (Abdullah bin Ubaidullah) was a Bedouin poet from the Umayyad and Abbasid eras, nicknamed after his mother Al-Dumaynah. Most of his poetry is love poetry. He was a brave knight who joined the Abbasid army in Yemen. He was killed by treachery in the village of Al-Ablaa around 180 AH while reciting poetry. He preferred death over exile and estrangement. He was imprisoned in Tabala for a period and later escaped to Yemen, where he praised Sana'a and its people.
