Fustat .. and the story of the entry of Islam into Egypt

Dr. Abdul Karim bin Ibrahim Al-Samak

Fustat came in the location chosen for it by Amr ibn al-Aas, in the plain adjacent to the Babylon Fortress. In the year 21 AH, the planning of the new camp began. The first thing started was building the mosque attributed to him - the Mosque of Amr ibn al-Aas - which is one of the landmarks of Cairo now. They called the new city Fustat because when Amr intended to to Alexandria, he ordered the removal of his tent (Fustat), only to find a dove had laid eggs in it, so he ordered not to disturb it.
