Service Description:

This service enables individuals and organizations to borrow information resources for external use, facilitating scientific research and promoting a culture of reading. Through its digital systems, the library automates borrowing and renewal processes to ensure a flexible user experience, while adhering to precise regulations that safeguard the sustainability of knowledge resources and preserve the integrity of the national collections, striking a balance between providing access to knowledge and protecting the cultural heritage.

Loan List

1. Membership Categories and Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing privileges are determined based on the membership category and the security deposit provided:

Organizations and Institutions In accordance with signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements.
2. Borrowing Period and Renewal Policy
  • Borrowing Period: 30 days from the date of collection.
  • Renewal: Borrowed items may be renewed once for an additional 15 days by contacting the Borrowing Department (by phone or email).
  • Security Deposit Refund: Beneficiaries are entitled to request an electronic refund of the security deposit one month after obtaining membership, provided that all borrowed books have been returned and a membership cancellation request has been submitted.
  • Payment Method: All payments must be made electronically via the Mada point-of-sale (POS) system. Cash payments are not accepted under any circumstances.
3. Materials Not Available for Borrowing

To preserve the rarity and value of certain resources, the following materials are available for in-library use only:

  • Reference materials (encyclopedias, dictionaries, and guides).
  • Arabic periodicals and academic theses.
  • Rare books, manuscripts, and historical documents.
  • Maps, atlases, and government publications.
  • Single-copy books or books consisting of more than two volumes.
  • Non-print materials (audio-visual resources and microforms).

Note: The library administration reserves the right to restrict the borrowing of any book deemed necessary to remain available within the library.

4. Overdue Items and Related Violations
  • Late Fee: SAR 1 per day for each overdue book.
  • Lost Book: A book is considered lost if it remains overdue for one full year. In such cases, lost item charges will apply in addition to the accumulated late fees.
  • Service Suspension: Borrowing privileges and membership cancellation requests will be suspended until all outstanding fines have been paid and all overdue books have been returned.
5. Loss and Damage Policy

In the event that a borrowed book is lost or damaged (including erasures, markings, or removal of pages):

  1. Replacement in Kind: The beneficiary must provide a replacement copy of the same edition, or the latest available edition, with equivalent binding specifications.
  2. Financial Compensation: If a replacement copy cannot be provided, the beneficiary must pay twice the assessed value of the book, as determined by the competent committee.
  3. Security Deposit Settlement: Any applicable fines will be deducted from the deposited security amount. If the total fines exceed the security deposit, the beneficiary is responsible for paying the remaining balance.
