Scientific life among Muslims in the Middle Ages
Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Samak
Western writers who did justice to Islamic civilization spoke about schools and education in Islamic societies, pointing to this reality as a fundamental part of building Islamic society in the Middle Ages. At a time when Europe was in deep slumber, thousands of schools in villages and cities were receiving millions of boys and girls to learn the Quran and the principles of grammar. The Islamic state was interested in the education of its subjects and soon made education a duty it sponsored. The book also mentions a document talking about a British official mission that intended to study in Andalusia, carrying a letter from King George II of England to the Caliph of the Muslims in Andalusia, Hisham III, requesting for British noble girls to follow their example in spreading the lights of knowledge in their country surrounded by ignorance.
