After nearly a quarter of a century, the able critic Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghathami returns once again to discuss the questions of cultural criticism, and طرح new ideas related to it through his book which will be published soon under the title: "Problems of Cultural Criticism: Questions in Theory and Application." Dr. Al-Ghathami had clarified in his weekly article in the Emirati Al-Ittihad newspaper several confusing matters for those concerned with the theory of cultural criticism, where he wrote: "Two offenses are committed against cultural criticism, the first is the claim that cultural criticism is limited to the criticism of poetic patterns alone, and the second is the confusion between cultural criticism and cultural studies. Cultural criticism is based on sensing hidden patterns and examining discourses to dig for hidden systemic patterns according to a methodology that adopts the concepts of total metaphors, cultural irony, cultural sentence and systemic significance, while cultural studies depend on the overlap of what is literary with what is political and social."
