The Saqqara archaeological area in Giza continues to reveal its treasures. This week, a new discovery was announced involving the largest and most complete mummification workshops ever found, one for humans and one for animals. Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, noted that these workshops date back to the 30th Dynasty and the Ptolemaic period.

The discovery includes tombs from the Old and New Kingdoms and various artifacts, including stone and wooden statues. The human mummification workshop contained stone beds covered in mortar with drainage gutters for the mummification process, along with ritual vessels and linen. The animal workshop included beds and burials for sacred animals. This achievement marks the sixth consecutive year of successful excavations by an all-Egyptian team in Saqqara.
