The history of Islamic libraries is a history of Islamic thought. The library in Cordoba during the reign of Caliph Abd al-Rahman al-Nasir and his son al-Hakam rivaled the libraries of Baghdad and Alexandria. It played a major role in the European intellectual movement during the Middle Ages.
