Saudi Women in Sharjah's Heritage and Future
With the participation of female artisans and Saudi artistic groups, the activities of the Sharjah Heritage Days began in its nineteenth edition last Thursday, organized by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage under the slogan "Heritage and Future" in the Heritage Square in the "Heart of Sharjah" area.
Sharjah Heritage Days, in which more than "33" countries from around the world participate, aim to link the past with the present and employ heritage tools in achieving more achievements in the future.
The Al-Saree Art Group from Al-Ahsa participates in the days, presenting colors of Saudi arts, in addition to participation in fine arts.
Trainer and artisan Fatima Al-Ghamdi explained that she came to participate in the events at the invitation of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, representing the Kingdom with a number of female artisans to introduce festival visitors to Saudi heritage that represents various regions of the Kingdom, rich in its diverse heritage and ethnic culture.
She stated that she participates with heritage costumes representing the Central Region, Eastern Region, Southern Region, Western Region, and Northern Region, noting that each region has a dress that differs in terms of color, weaving, and embroidery from another region.
For her part, Aida Al-Harthy indicated that she participates in weaving Saudi Sadu, which is considered one of the oldest traditional crafts in many regions of the Kingdom, depicting human efforts and adaptation to their environment. She noted that this profession depends on materials and tools including camel hair, ,at wool, and sheep wool, in addition to the spindle, needle, and wooden pegs.
In turn, the supervisor of Saudi participation in Sharjah Heritage Days, Khalid bin Fahd Al-Humaim, explained that the presence of the nation's daughters in this Gulf festival is an extension of their effective and strong presence in all occasions and in representing the Kingdom in Gulf, Arab, and international forums.
