Saudi Sculptor Essam Jamil: I love interacting with and conversing with the environment!

Interviewed by: Radi Jouda. Sculpture in the world of visual arts is the aesthetic and historical addition that tourists and visitors read without needing to enter galleries. The presence of statues in squares is a wonderful record of the artist's creativity. I met the great Saudi artist Essam Jamil, and today he talks about his experience carving on marble, stone, and wood.

Essam explains that his work is a flight of imagination to collect data that helps formulate an artistic work. Sometimes the lack of a suitable block leads to layered structures to present the sculpture in a larger, more beautiful size. He believes training courses produce generations of artists, but can be negative if the instructor is unskilled. Factors that cause an artist to isolate include failing to read oneself and surrendering to negative waves. He believes the current surge in sculpture in the Kingdom is very healthy for spreading artistic awareness. His favorite stage is the moment of obtaining the idea and then seeing it manifest as an artistic work.
