Cultural famine

Mohammed Hamad Al-Sowaigh

I lean towards the correctness of what I titled this article while I talk about children's literature and the weaknesses that afflict it. The Arab child actually suffers from a cultural famine that is hidden from no one, and it is enough to visit our public libraries to discover this bitter fact. What we read of works for the Arab child are nothing more than a group of individual efforts that are not useful. The most dangerous are those taken from Western literature or translated from it, where the child lives in atmospheres completely foreign to him, present in body and absent in mind.
