The Heritage Commission announced the registration of "253" new archaeological and historical sites in the National Antiquities Register, as part of its efforts to discover, document, register and preserve archaeological and historical sites in the Kingdom.

The CEO of the Commission, Dr. Jasser Al-Harbash, explained that the archaeological sites whose registration was approved include (141) sites in the Asir region, and (112) sites in the Hail region, represented in buildings and architectural units with different styles, and a large amount of inscriptions, drawings, and ancient rock markings dating back to the prehistoric era, and some Islamic inscriptions and writings.

Al-Harbash stressed that the Commission is moving at a rapid pace towards documenting historical and archaeological sites in various regions of the Kingdom, and registering them in the National Antiquities Register.

Among the most prominent of these sites: the Jerash archaeological site, which dates back to the pre-Christian period, and the Al-Abla archaeological site, where recent excavation results showed the discovery of artifacts dating back to the fourth century BC. Also, the Incense Road, which was a major economic artery, and the heritage village of Rijal Almaa, consisting of 60 multi-story stone buildings.
