Umm Kulthum Naguib Mahfouz Prepares to Publish Her First Book, Featuring the Nobel Writer's Memoirs for the First Time Exclusively
Umm Kulthum Naguib Mahfouz, daughter of the late writer, is preparing to launch her first book titled "My Father Naguib Mahfouz", edited by Menatallah Al-Abyad, a journalist at Al-Ahram. The book includes Naguib Mahfouz's memoirs, which will be published for the first time in his own handwriting..
Umm Kulthum Naguib Mahfouz is currently studying a number of contracts submitted by some publishing houses inside and outside Egypt, to settle on a suitable house to publish her first work about her father, the Nobel writer..
The daughter of the late writer said, "Through the lines of my book, I try to provide a testimony for history, removing injustice from Naguib Mahfouz the human and his family, and his creativity which does not need a lawyer. I push away injustice from his family which was affected by distortion from close people and others who claimed their closeness to my father and thought they knew him more than the family. Despite our distance from the spotlight and media, and our very rare appearance, rumors forced us to appear defending a sin we did not commit, and a charge we are not the heroes of."".
The daughter of the Nobel writer mentioned, "About two years a,, I agreed with Menatallah Al-Abyad, the journalist at Al-Ahram, to prepare my memoirs about my father Naguib Mahfouz, to be the first work for the family that speaks in it for the first time. I narrate in the book memories of Naguib Mahfouz the father, his relationship with his family, and the great role of 'my mother Attiyah Allah' in his life, where many tried to marginalize her, intentionally or unintentionally. Indeed, we recorded more than 10 hours, through our weekly meetings in the Marriott Hotel. I opened my heart and mind to my first book which will reveal the big truth."".
Regarding the literary surprise that will be published for the first time, she said, "A surprise happened that we never expected, but I believe in the arrangements of fate. While arranging my father's private office room, and sorting his belongings, books, and papers, I found his only memoirs that he wrote in his own hand by chance, which are published exclusively and for the first time in my book about my father, which reveal many important and hidden aspects in the personality of Naguib Mahfouz."".
She concluded her speech by saying, "I believe that we are all passing away and this is an inescapable truth. What we wrote will remain, this document in your hands, what I say about my father, and his memoirs which are published for the first time and exclusively in this book, the only ones in his handwriting."".
