In the book "Mirror of the Stranger" by Dr. Aisha Al-Atiq: The image of women and their relationship with the other in the Saudi female novel
The title of Dr. Aisha bint Salim Al-Atiq's book "Mirror of the Stranger" stems from a verse by poet Dhu al-Rumma, referring to a woman who marries outside her tribe and constantly polishes her mirror. The book examines the image of women in the Saudi female novel from 1990 to 2015. This period marks a boom in female authorship in the Kingdom. The book is divided into two sections: social issues (subordination, self-awareness, writing, and love) and technical construction (plot, character, and time). Dr. Al-Atiq highlights that through writing, women have moved from being spoken about by men to speaking for themselves. The study analyzes 48 novels by writers such as Badriya Al-Bishr, Raja Alsanea, and Zainab Hefny, exploring how these works uncover the deep concerns and aspirations of Saudi women through transparent narration.
